Taylor Swift donates $50 000 to a little girl with bad blood

 

Singer Taylor Swift donated an accumulative $50 000 (over R600k) to Naomi Oakes’ GoFundMe page, after seeing a video about the 11-year-old’s battle with leukaemia.

Gender violence help centre underutilised

 

Johannesburg - A R4.2-million, 24-hour command centre, launched last year to provide support and counselling to victims of gender-based violence in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, is apparently not running at full capacity.

 

Some role-players who are involved in assisting victims fear that the centre, which has become a lifeline for women, may face closure.

 

Créche receives helping hand

 

LIMPOPO – FARISANI Community Crèche in Folovhodwe-Tshikhudini village outside Mutale recently received assistance with the donation of R80 000 from Limpopo Voluntary Group Scheme Board in conjunction with Old Mutual Thohoyandou.

 

The Donation also included chairs, a water tank, fridge, a computer and printer and a trampoline.

Disability activists protest budget that leaves out funding

(AP) - The announcement of a California budget deal has not stopped pleas for the state to spend more on social services, as advocates for people with disabilities came to the state Capitol Wednesday, angry after additional funding for services was left out of the $115.4 billion deal.

 

South Africans called to support casual day

 

Casual Day ambassadors have issued their annual challenge to the youth of South Africa to spring to action for persons with disabilities. A number of local celebrities support Casual Day, which is South Africa’s most successful fundraising project for persons with disabilities.

 

Thuli Matlala, 2J Harmonix, Patrick Mashegwana and Khumo Moyane, spent some time at a recent music concert to get the endorsement of celebrities DJ Zubz and TV presenter Lezanne Naidoo for this year’s Casual Day campaign.
